2nd and 3rd Class football league in Tullamore.

This week saw Scoil Bhríde Primary School boys play in the schools first ever football blitz. Scoil Bhríde picked a team of second and third class boys to compete against the third and fourth class children from around the county. This age gap didn’t seem to bother our boys however, as they put on an excellent display of football and showed an admirable amount of discipline. Tullamore Town Football Club hosted the event which took place on their astro-turf pitches.
Scoil Bhríde got off to a flying start against Clara with scores coming from Adam
McGlade, Joe Bergin, Jim Bergin and Séan Mustapha, while Robbie Rolandi and Mark O’
Leary stood like a brick wall in the line of defence. Gavin Kelly, Jake Connolly, Jason McNamara, Stephen Davey and Aleksss Dinsbergs all played a vital role as they freshened up the side. However the final two minutes saw the tides turn when Clara managed to slot away two goals, enough for them to take home the victory and beat Scoil Bhríde by one single point.
The next match saw Scoil Bhríde play Gaelscoil an Eiscir Riada. Scoil Bhríde began with much the same style and charisma as they did in the first game. Joe Bergin slotted in a couple of early goals, however it was the solid hands of Jacob ‘Kuba’ Golack that drove the Edenderry side on. Goals and points came sailing between the Gaelscoil posts from all angles, as Jack Hooper hit one of the scores of the match. There was no doubt that Scoil Bhríde were the better side and they proved this on the day.
Scoil Colm Poil would prove to be Scoil Bhrídes toughest opponents, however the sides traded scores for almost the whole match. Gavin Kelly came on to put away an inspirational goal, but even this was not enough to put away the home side. Scoil Bhríde narrowly missed out on the victory.
An enjoyable day was had by both teachers and children attending the blitz. We would like to thank the second and third class of Scoil Bhríde for their excellent behaviour on the day. The referees were very impressed that the discipline that the school showed on and off the field. We would like to thank Alan Mulhall for all his efforts in organising the blitz and we would also like to thank all the boys and girls who are playing on the lunchtime league. During the year all of these children will get a chance to shine and hopefully represent the school in more football competitions.

Is crann láidir mé.

Is crann láidir mé, mo chosa sa chré,
Mo ghéaga ag luascadh,
Go bríomhar sa ghaoth.

Na duilleoga glasa ag damhsa go gasta,
Is mé atá sásta,
Is crann láidir mé

Rógairí ag Spraoi

Feach ar seo.
Ár fiseán Gaeilga nua.

Mom or Dad might help you remember the poem. These are the words...

Aon, dó, aon, dó, trí -
Rógairí ag déanamh spraoi.
Aon, dó, aon, dó, trí –
Piliúirí ag na rógairí.
Siar is aniar leis na pilliúirí,
Sall is anall leis na rógairí
Umf! Amf! Hí! Hí! Hí!
Seachain, seachain na piliúirí.
Aon, dó, aon, dó, trí -
Rógairí ag déanamh spraoi.
Aon, dó, aon, dó, trí –
Piliúirí ag na rógairí.
Féach anois, Phléasc na piliúirí!
Cleití, cleití ar fud an tí.
Umf! Amf! Hí! Hí! Hí!
Rógairí ag déanamh spraoi.

Trees.

Last week we went out into the field to look at some trees. We found a big tree with big roots going into the ground. The tree had branches and twigs and leaves. The tree had a bark that made up part of the trunk.

If you want to learn a little more about trees there are some great worksheets here on the Coillte website.

Edenderry, the senior football county champions!!

Last week the Edenderry football team came in to visit us in Scoil Bhríde. They had just won the senior football county final. That means that they are the best team in Offaly. They brought in the Dowling cup that they won and talked to all of us.
The Scoil Bhride Smarties would like to wish Edenderry football team the best of luck when they play Athy next month.
Thanks for coming,
Mr. O' Regan
