The haka

Recently we learned the Haka in class. The Haka is a traditional dance from the Maóri of New Zealand, just like the way we have Irish dancing in Ireland. The dance is performed as a prayer to the Maóri gods. New Zealand danced the Haka just before they played Ireland in a rugby match lately. The 'all blacks' won so something must have done the trick!

Here is a video of our class performing the Haka at Edenderry rugby club!
Thanks to Ms. Karen Duffy, Patsy Gorman and everyone else who came on the day!

I Like Cabbage
I like eating cabbage ,turnip, beetroot, cress,
Very smelly foreign cheese and, best you’ll never guess!
It isn’t  chocolate or ice cream.
No, no it isn’t  custard
My very best, my favourite food,
Is sausages with mustard.

The Goose Who Laid Golden Eggs.
An old man and a old woman had a goose that laid golden  eggs. The goose laid seven eggs a week. The old man and woman sell the eggs from the house. They get lots of money for the eggs. The old man and the woman are very greedy.   One day they had an idea.   If they killed the Goose would there be gold inside the goose?  It turned out to  be like any ordinary goose.  The old man and woman were poor forever more.

Volcanoes

Here are pictures from a volcano we made last month. After reading up on the lost city of Pompeii and acting out a play we decided we would make our own volcano. We used air baking soda and vinegar to create a reaction inside our volcano. We built our volcano out of clay. A useful tip is to build your volcano around a cup (to hold your vinegar). We used red paint to create the lava like colour. No cities were destroyed in the making of this experiment!!!

Did you know??
The liquid rock inside a volcano is called magma.
When this liquid rock explodes to the surface it is called lava.
